Borel Middle school has a FANTASTIC music program. Every year almost all of our students take music.
We have amazing teachers and amazing bands. Our students participate in trips, concerts and even competitions. Please help us support our students and continue their music education.
In October of 2015 our Music Department teamed up with the San Mateo Sister City association and took 22 of our current music students to Toyonaka, Japan. We performed at our sister city school of Dai-Kyu Junior High School. We had 4 brave string instruments attending this trip. They played a string quartet, and were the 4 only string instruments when we traveled to Japan, because at Dai-Kyu, they have only band instruments. The music students chosen for this trip were evaluated by skill level, performance, behavior, and an essay including why they wanted to attend the trip. The chosen students practice very hard during the week, and had 1-hour rehearsals every Friday. Although the music is hard, we knew they would rise to the challenge.
This was a once in a lifetime experience for this group.
Big Thanks to Helene Grotans, Carolyn Shavel, Connie McCarly, Lana Fenech, Lori Fukomoto, Toyonaka parents, and many others for making this trip possible and for organizing this amazing trip!
This year our 7th and 8th grade students will have a chance to perform in Disneyland as well as record in the Disney Music Studio. Each band works hard to audition and selected bands raise funds so that every student may attend the trip regardless of income level.
